The terminator in T1 wasn't supposed to have much personality, he was more like Jason Voorhees than Freddy Krueger.

T1 didn't have much CGI to begin with, if any at all, they mostly used practical effects. T2, on the other hand, was a major breakthrough in CGI - and those effects still hold up very well today.

That being said, I'm downloading T1 right now. XD
