He was writing TV and film scripts in mid-'80s, but they were rejected or modified for time and budget. That pissed him off, so he started writing Game of Thrones with the intention of making it unfilmable. And now, years later, lo and behold, they're filming it. So the trolling stems directly from the way he wrote the books in the first place. I imagine he's pretty pleased with the way the TV series turned out - after all, he made sure it wouldn't be easy to make.

The point is, there are various kinds of sword and any warrior can carry a blade of any size, depending on his size, strength and fighting style. So if one guy used a claymore and another had a broadsword, then the former would be more suitable for the back of the throne and the latter for the armrest.
