Black Swan + "Kick-ass" Girls + Starry Sky #10
Soo, yesterday I ditched the Carnival Party, and went to watch Black Swan with my cousing, instead.
IT WAS AWESOME. Beautiful beyond imagination, sad, twisted and weird∼ It was a very feminine movie! Despite telling the story about a psycho girl with a personality disorder I found it quite-- I don't know, "realistic"? Easy to relate to..? Just lovely.
I also loved how the ballet story merged with Nina's life, as to suggest that fiction, expecially the fiction that is a milestone in literature and culture, always sprouts from what reality offers.

The sequence where Nina got her "wings" while dancing as Odile was STUNNING. It's just one of the most beautiful, yet disturbing (with all the weird bird sounds and goosebumps effect XD), scenes ever ♥ --OMG, I'M IN LOVE FOR EVER.
After the movie we went to one of those "all you can eat" Japanese restaurant. It was a nice place, also if according to critics their rice is not pressed the right way XD I had the first onigiri of my life! And tendon and seafood yakisoba among other things ^o^ I also had a cute fruit pudding! Awww XD --My cousing said that how Nina transformed into a swan, I was about to transform into a pudding D: I spit out a bit of it while laughing at the idea of making "puri-puri" pudding sounds, LOL XD

amelia_seyroon made a post complaining about people being unsatisfied by the lack of proper "kick-ass" girls in anime, following with a list of fighting girls.
I personally think that Western female audience is a bit biased over the concept of "kicking ass".
They usually figure the characteristics of a typical shounen hero and pretend to paste the whole stereotype on a vagina-equipped character.
Sorry if I will hurt your feminist ideas with this, but women are NOTHING like men. They are not as strong, they have the handicap of menstruations/gravidance and they are frailer, psychologically speaking.
They are also more mature, though, more sensitive, and generally more responsible, but we're also WAY MEANER than men.
I'm quite the tomboy, nothing like a proper woman, but for how much combative and caustic I may be, I don't think that I could ever jump into an enemy hiding spot and punch the whole army out as Goku from Dragonball would. And I don't also feel the need to see a female character doing that for some twisted "par condicio" reason.
I don't understand what's wrong with girls acting like girls, also when they do things that I wouldn't personally do.
I don't also understand what's wrong with people dissing Naruto's female cast because they fall in love, the most of them re med-nins and apparently they can't walk on the streets when being pregnant.
I think that people hating on female characters 'cause they are females is pretty idiotic, but hating on female characters 'cause they don't do the same things that males do or because they don't get enough relevance as the male protagonist does is PRETTY RETARDED.
--Just how repressed and inferiority-complexed are you, to feel like this towards a fucking 2D character?
It'd better if you quit with anime and go watch Xena :/
Also, I watched Starry Sky #10... All in all it was a nice episode.
Tsukiko shifts from uber-mature little speeches dispenser to frail girl who wants to keep up with her male friends but can't (speaking of "kick ass female characters", uh?), getting emo over it.
Fortunately there's Homare. HOMARE, I WANNA MARRY YOU ;__;
Next time, it's Iku (Gemini) time :D I read terrible things about him, but I kinda like him-- His character design reminds me of Seimei (Loveless) with glasses-- OH, WHY AM I SO WEAK AGAINST THE MEGANE TYPES ;_;

Well, that's in my opinion >_>;;

Feminists usually think that women are better than men because they are women.
I'm talking about something different here: I'm talking about people (mostly girls) thinking bad of a series or a character because that character doesn't do things like men do.
It's like male guys complaining about crossdressing male characters. It's like being overly sensitive over trivial matters, spraying "gender consciousness" around when there's no need to :/
I don't understand what's wrong with a girl acting girly!
no subject
It's also feminism, because for a long time, women had to fight for that fairness. And they still are. Women still get paid less than men do for the same jobs. :/ That sort of thing.
Feminists usually think that women are better than men because they are women.
Not true. Traditional feminism is about equality, not women being better. The people who take it too far are not accurate representations of what feminism stands for.
According to the dictionary:
1. the doctrine advocating social, political, and all other rights of women equal to those of men.
2. ( sometimes initial capital letter ) an organized movement for the attainment of such rights for women.
So yeah. It's not about being better. It's about being equal. And if a small number of them feel they should be better, they are not the majority.
I don't understand what's bad about it either. Women should be able to do what they want. I still have to disagree with your first two points. But we can agree to disagree. I just wanted to get my point across.

But from the theory to practice things usually get blurred.
Also Communism was about a righteous distribution of income, and we all know how it ended, according to its application by some of its faboys.
Sometimes by reading or looking at some of these people recriminations, I have the impression that their main issue is making sure that also men feel what "being oppressed" means.
Do you remember that Mary Jane statuette issue (http://farm1.static.flickr.com/189/493753697_f4a96c076f_o.jpg)..? Now, all the critics against that thinglet were obviously the result of a sick mind.
I remember that one artist came up with a male version of it, Spiderman wearing a tanga and cleaning Mary Jane's underwear. Now, that version wasn't considered sexist or the result of poor taste, but a humourous and smart counterattack.
I sense some double standards here..?
I'm obviously ok with women sharing the same benefits and rights as men, but this kind of absurd troubles over NOTHING get me fucking SICK.
I mean-- There are places on this planet were women are supposed to get their genitals sewed to save their virginity, places were rape is taken for granted and it's actually "the woman's blame" for getting raped, and these "feminist" people are starting internet battles because Sakura in still in love with Sasuke?! For fuck sake D: !!
So, yeah, I'll never allow people like that to represent me as a woman, and I can't be glad that you're fine with that :/

And there are plenty of people who sit back behind their computers and fight the good ol' PC fight from there. But there's also plenty of people who go out and actively do things against this horrid shit. Raising awareness is better than doing shit-all.
Whatever, I'm out. It's obvious we'll never agree so I'm going to just forget this shit ever happened. It's better that way.

I see people on Livejournal talking about Tenten screentime like there's no tormorrow for human salvation because Kishimoto is sexist.
Women have many issues to get angry about, instead of fandom shit, and they should focus on that... Well, I don't know, I'm really saying something so rude and outrageous ò_o ?
no subject
These people could be out there actively doing things for these bigger issues and you wouldn't know. I still talk about things like that on LJ and I've done things for women's rights (attended marches, raised money, raised awareness). /shrug
I won't reply again after this. We can agree to disagree.

Before this modern age of medicine, if women wanted to have sex, there was an insanely high chance they were gonna have kids. No way around it. The men had to go everything to take care of them because there was simply no way around it. Thus, all these platitudes and niceties formed about this horribly unequal model of men-vs-women, and sadly they have not all died out yet. In America, in the more progressive cities, people like me are fighting for that inequality to finally just fucking die, but the more conservative Texans do not appreciate progress or change, so it's a never-ending fight.
You are indeed entitled to your own opinion, but men and women just plain are not that different. Period. Women are psychologically more frail because our society has created an impossible situation for us. We are still expected to be well-groomed at all times, or else we get looked down upon. We are still cute, precious little sex objects, no matter how active our drive to change that, and we still get paid less than men in 20fucking11. Women's psychological instability is a direct cause of this strange, hybrid society we're living in right now, which is a mix of old-school "if you want to have sex, you WILL become a wife and a mother, soon" and post-modern "Okay, yes, people are just people, and should be judged on their mental character and what they add to society, not physical strength or number of nice suits."
America in particular is especially backwards and broken, so don't think I'm praising it, lol. But perhaps the male-vs-female debate has different cultural/societal backgrounds on either side of the pond, yes? There are indeed countries where women have NO rights, but just because we have been fighting to get where we are doesn't mean we stop now. It is unfortunate that "feminist" has come to basically mean "feminazi", because the term feminist actually is a positive one that means "men and women should be equal, but women are still not equal."
On the flip side, it's kind of caused a counter-reaction. Men are afraid to show feelings, hug their friends, or anything that might even slightly be considered gay or girly because they feel this deep need to constantly represent their masculinity. This, too, is societal. Men feel feelings, but they're repressed by society and parents in that society. Loooll, parents do SO much damage to the kids they're raising (in this state especially) that it is just un-freakin'-believable. People should not just have kids out of some sense that 'it's what people do.' It should be a decision, because it is damn obvious to people like me when parents just sort of 'ended up' in that situation, and are bullshitting their way through it because they are unhappy about how much their kids hold them back.
But maybe that's just my personal view of family.
WOW WALL OF TEXT this could go on for fucking ever.
What I'm saying is that while, yes, women don't need to act like men in order to be appreciated characters, but this 'women are one way and men are the other way' is just plain wrong. Many men are one way and many women are the other way, but I fear it's a cause of society's bullshit brainwashing. I know I personally am completely fucked up from every angle because my own natural personality is so at odds with how I was raised and what I was taught. I'm still recovering, but I basically have to tell people every day that things they assume about me because I am biologically female are just plain incorrect, and to not assume things about me or anyone else just because of what's between their legs.
tl;dr
It's all a case-to-case basis. Everyone's different. Generalizing is bad.

I--I don't know, I didn't want this to become a series of lectures about women rights D:
I was talking about FAMDOMS an FICTIONAL CHARACTERS, right..? It's bit weird stating that "Every woman should do what she wants to do D: !" referring to a 2D character designed by a Japanese man in his thirties, isn't that?
I can see your point, Joss, and look, I live in Italy where our Prime Minister slept (or whatever he did-- Personally I don't think that he actually got her laid [he's too old for that]) with a underage whore thinking that it was cool and manly, so, GO FIGURE, I think that Texas is a nice place XD
Anyway, if people (like I do, honestly) assumes that feminist = feminazi, these people should actually question why this is happening and what's wrong with their methods, 'cause I'm not a male redneck but a *supposedly* civilized woman with a degree that earns as much as a man.
THIS SAID, yeah, Black Swan ;_; ♥
...Speaking of it, don't you think that it has much to do on the subject?
Nina's mum (female) wanted Nina to be asexual, precise and pretty, for ever innocent. Thomas (male) wanted her to be slutty, charming an seducing.
Nina (individual) wanted to be perfect-- So she died to make her triumph eternal D:

Yes yes, I fucking adored Black Swan for that exact reason! Parents and role models trying to morph someone into whatever they want, and since young people are susceptible (especially if they're sheltered like Nina) it doesn't take much to wire a person's brain in a way that, in the end, will literally turn them insane. Insanity is just the brain trying to find a solution, but there isn't one, so...it just creates one. It has to.
Not to mention that that movie was simply beautiful to look at, start to finish, and Natalie Portman is an utter dream. What an actor! I've never seen her play such an odd, frail, dynamic role, but I like her even more as an actor now than I already did.
no subject
It was like the struggle between her identity and the expectations of others projected on her!
It was an incredibly violent and intense movie, in a sense--!
And well, what happened to Nina happens to everyone, even if with less tragedy and more intimately, everyone reaches a stage when they have to deal with a "darker side" to reach some kind of mental balance..! It was very interesting ;o;

MOVING ALONG. I'm waiting for the Black Swan DVD release since it's pretty obvious I'm definitely not going to the movie theater at all. >>;
And Starry Sky #10, Tsukiko, why do you disappoint me? >D Just be kickass in archery, okay?
OH, WHY AM I SO WEAK AGAINST THE MEGANE TYPES ;_;
OMG I AM, TOO.

Natalie Portman has become a favorite high-profile actress on my list, I just wanna see it for her
not for the hot lesbian scene. *_*Isn't that the point of the whole series, though? The game is about which dude the girl ends up with. :O

--I BLUSHED A LITTLE THERE, AHAH XD
I don't think it is O: In the game, you had to "catch" all the boys-- The series I assume that it's mostly about fapping over the male protagonists... I mean, I never considered the fact that at the end of the series Tsukiko would be effectively paired up to someone, because it would be inconvenuient for the people of the other signs XD ? Or they could pair her up with the Ophiucus boy, so everyone would be happy (in unhappiness) :D
no subject
:O Huh. To me it doesn't seem like she's interested in any of them, they're the ones interested in HER. >D

x'D
LOL, you're right XD Also, if the most of them looks as being caring, more than attracted... I think that Kanata, the Pisces guy is the nicest candidate, for now.
Kazuki (Aries) is apparently some kind of manwhore making the Student Council his harem-- Then there's Homare (Taurus), who's apparently the BEST HUBBIE for everyone, not Tsukiko only x'D

Also, I finished Star Driver #20...ZOMG, TAKUTO'S MOTHER. :O

Also if probably both Reiji (for being a manwhore) and Ryousuke (for being a frigid boyfriend) are to blame for her behaviour D:

You did a nice job with showing your friends that there actually a lot of characters that fit their standards... I just think that those standards are not just what makes a female character cool or interesting.
Oh, a friend of mine suggested it to me when it was out in the USA, so I waited for the local theatres to screen it :3
I was happy that I gave it a chance! It's really beautiful D':
Naah, but it's nice that she has some moments in which she shows her vulnerability ;_; Otherwise she would just flutter around among the (obviously gay) male characters saying smartass thinglets once in a while XD
Also if, honestly, the way this anime depicts people's emotions and the solutions to their troubles, it is pretty MEDIOCRE.
--I decided that I'll watch the whole thing to finally say which is the best Tsukiko pairing x'D !

Japanese food is delicious, but it's so damn expensive! ;_; And it always seems like it ends way too quickly, and you're still quite full. I honestly don't know how much would I have to eat to consider myself properly full and not able to eat a single grain of rice more.
Hit-Girl from "Kick-Ass" was really kick-ass! XD

Then we just gave up at a certain point, but we ate ANYTHING, and the menu was pretty huge, from sushi to soups. The only thing that we missed out was sashimi D: But we were pretty full already >_> !

If they had such an "all you can eat" offer then they'd probably have to carry me out, because I'd stuff myself too full to move a muscle. And they would never let me in again! XD
