Did you remember this tutorial for Photoshop? Well, this is a simplified version of it.

Basically it's the same tutorial but instead of using various brushes to shade we're going to get our chiaroscuro by the eraser tool; instead of adding color we'll remove it ^^

So, here we are with our nice cellshaded drawing (please, ignore a Dae as tries to add a background XD) ready to be shaded.
Let's make a new multiplied level; we're going to work there, leaving the "background" picture clean:

Once we're on our new level let's take a pretty brush and trace the shadowed zones roughly:

Now that we're done with the shadows let's select the eraser tool: choose a nice brush to give a paint effect and set its opacity on 40%

And now erase the parts that you suppose facing the light, softening and modeling the shadows :3
Once you're done select a littler and simpler brush to work on details; do the same with the eraser, adding extra light until you're satisfied of the result :3

Once you're finished you could add extra shadows by selecting a darker color and working on the same layer; to add extra lights and reflections to your pic make a new normal layer and work on there instead :3

You can see the finished picture I used for this tutorial here x3
