Well, that's pretty much how it was here - the manga was released due to the huge popularity of the "Sailor Moon" anime (BTW, it was the first anime I watched knowing that it was anime, and what it meant ^^) and it too was printed with the pages mirror-flipped. Only our edition followed the Japanese tankÅbon format.
And speaking of formats (yes, I'm going off on a tangent here, bear with me XD ), there were three peculiar cases, at least that I know of. Firstly, when "Evangelion" was released here, it came out in that American-style 32-pages "notebooks" as we call it, which lasted for the first six volumes. And since the length of the original volumes varied slightly, we would sometimes get an issue with the last chapter of one volume and the first chapter of the next volume. :D Eventually volumes 1-6 were re-released properly, but I didn't bother buying the same thing again; at least the first edition has bigger pages, which means you can see more details. :D (Also, it was the first manga to be released in Poland in the original right-to-left Japanese reading order.)
Then we got "Akira" - this one was split into 19 volumes about 120 (mirror-flipped) pages each, due to the length of the original six "bricks", and once again this meant that one volume of the Polish edition could have pages from two original volumes. They tried to bring it a little closer to the Japanese edition by introducing the "Akira boxes" - a cardboard boxes with the original covers for you to fold and glue, each one holding three volumes. It was a pretty nice touch, but it felt a little awkward since not every box would contain the entire story of its corresponding volume; plus volume 19 remained boxless. XD
And finally the weirdest thing - "Chirality", one of the six mangas released in the JPF Deluxe series. The first two volumes were all fine and dandy, but the third one was 18+. It was the first time JPF published adults-only stuff and they screwed it up big time - the third volume was released with a couple of pages simply not included; if you wanted to see the naughty bits you had to send them a photocopy of your ID proving you're the right age and they would then mail you the missing pages. Needless to say, people were kinda pissed. :D
