Well, they were more developed than Japaneses because their story started "earlier"... When Chineses were developing warfare, in Japan they were starting to learn how to grow rice, I think!
Speaking of rice, that bit was in the "Nobunaga on a ordinary day" part-- Don't know how frequently it's updated, I got to know that website recently (like, in 2012)!
