Ah, how I love this series <3<3
It's months since I wanna draw something about this wonderful series :D TODAY I forced myself to have some practice...Expecially about all those weird muscles (seriously, using that anime as a reference to have an organic vision of human musculature is almost masochism >_>;)-- But let's go with the pics ^_^

Picture reference here

--The references for these random studies comes from some shots of the anime that I got from this nice AVM :3

Pimpin' moment:
The series is licensed in the USA, so not online streaming is available.
Anyway, you can download the whole thing (both TV series) from TorrentReactor ^^ The TV series covers the storyline of the first manga series (Grappler Baki) of 42 volumes.
As for the manga (licensed in the USA too), only the volumes of the second manga series (New Grappler Baki, 31 volumes) are available on OneManga :3

OMG this actually looks better than the original artwork! :) I never really got into the series because of the weirdly proportioned bodies on the characters and such. These sketches actually want to watch the show now. But then again, it would require you to redraw all the animation for the show.....

Still I like it!

Thank you ^_^ I'm not very fond of the original artwork neither, it's so exagerated and grotesque ;_; But after some episodes you got used to it, it's such a good and intense series that once you're hooked on the story you don't really care of how the characters look like ^_^

Why do you talk about stealing? In Japan they're aired on TV --Why do I have to buy DVDs in a foreign language from a foreign country just to look at something that Japanese people watched for free..?

Yes, Baki the Grappler is a good show, especially for a lot of people over here that are big into mixed martial arts. The character designs scare me off, so your drawings make me feel more reassuring of the show.

About stealing, it's a long story about how anime is aired on TV but not always for free; almost all anime in Japan nowadays airs on a cable network like WOWOW or SkyPerfect and such... long story short, the anime industry is suffering. Downloading something (illegally) that is readily available for purchase legitimately does not put money back into the anime system. **Ideally** we should contribute to the anime industry by purchasing the DVDs so that more anime series can be made.

Granted, we don't live in an ideal world. I just wish more people could support the anime industry by buying the product legitimately -- not just the DVDs, but also the tee shirts, posters, figures, etc. :)

Whatever you still decide to do, I'll still like you a lot :)

Anyway yeah... Some character designs really sadden me, on the yaoi side ;_;

What the hell are you saying XD ? Animes in Japan are for the 99,9% aired on TV.
And how can you say that it's suffering when you have something like 20 new series to follow for every season at every hour of the day, without counting OVAs and movie releases?
In Japan the most of the money from animes doesn't come from the airing itself but from the merchandising; you have no idea of HOW CHEAP anime series are to buy for western companies.
In the USA the most of the money is contributed by the home video system. I'm not surprised or horrified by this fact; in Japan animation is daily routine, so I can see how the companies re-gain the most of the expenses by selling special editions DVD collections (that are not as miserable as ours, but include merchandising, special gifts, seiyuu's signatures, pictures and interviews with the cast, stuff for your PC--) and gadgets... In western societies this isn't possible since animation is considred as stuff destined to kids.

Yes, anime is aired on TV, but nowadays, it isn't aired on free TV. Most new shows are only accessible through cable channels. And there used to be way more than 20 new series every season in Japan. Nowadays it's a lot lower than that, much closer to 20. And out of those 20 every year, possibly as few as 2 or 3 become successful. There's crappy shows in Japan, too.

Most new series are expensive to produce, which is why the merchandising aspect of the series keeps these shows alive. And of course the Japanese have gotten the hint and started marketing their series overseas (i.e., the States). The bad thing is that most people are either uninterested in the series being released here, or if they are, they've already gotten it via the fansubs. We don't have conventions easily accessible to us every week (even though I visit upwards of 6-7 conventions a year), and we have no shops like Animate and Anime Gamers in every huge city in the States. You'd be a little hard-pressed to find a brick-and-mortar store outside of Japan (and outside the big cities like NYC, LA, Washington DC, etc.) that sells all the latest merchandise all the time.

We here in the States have been getting nice special-edition style releases for most profitable series -- and not set at a ridiculously extortionist price like in Japan. (DVDs are very expensive in Japan, most of them have no extras, no subtitles, and only 2 episodes per disc.)

I will admit that I don't know what the scene is like in Italy, where you are, and I'd like to know a little about it over there. And I hope you don't consider me your mortal enemy or anything like that because I love your artwork! :)
